Straight Talk Plans

Straight Talk is an MVNO offering some of the most robust coverage, as it runs on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon’s networks. Straight Talk houses a decent variety of prepaid plans, ranging from 5GB to unlimited data, in addition to offering international add-ons and extended 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month plans with select unlimited options.

Compare Straight Talk plans

Straight Talk Wireless offers five prepaid phone plans, ranging from $30/month for unlimited texts, 1,500 minutes, and 100MB to $60/month for 25GB plus sweet international perks. Straight Talk’s affordable prepaid plans are a great option if you’re looking to save money on your phone bill while reaping the benefits of excellent coverage aboard the three major networks. Plus, you can save even more when you sign up for Auto-Refill.

Straight Talk unlimited plans

Straight Talk offers three unlimited data plans—the $55 Ultimate Unlimited Data Plan, the $45 Unlimited Plan with 25GB, and the $60 Unlimited International Plan.

The $55 Ultimate Unlimited Data Plan includes some nice features, such as:

  • Unlimited talk, text, and data
  • 60GB data deprioritization threshold
  • 10GB mobile hotspot

The data deprioritization threshold means that you can use up to 60GB of 4G LTE data before your speeds could potentially be temporarily slowed during network congestion—but don’t worry, they’ll pick back up again once the network clears up. 60GB is quite a high deprioritization threshold, especially for an MVNO, so this is a solid choice if you’re looking for an affordable unlimited plan that truly feels unlimited.

Conversely, both the Straight Talk $60 Unlimited International Plan and $45 Unlimited Plan with 25GB include unlimited talk, text, and data but high-speed data is limited to 25GB—after you use 25GB, your speeds will be throttled to 2G for the rest of the billing cycle. This is a fairly low threshold for an unlimited data plan so these options may not be the best if you’re a heavy streamer and gamer since those activities use a lot of data.

The reason the Unlimited International Plan is more expensive is because of its sweet international features, such as unlimited international calling and unlimited mobile-to-mobile to China, Canada, Mexico, and India, which may be worth it if you have a loved one living abroad.

Also, if you’re looking to save even more money on a Straight Talk plan, you may want to consider a 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month extended plan, which is available for the $45 Unlimited Plan with 25GB. The more months you buy upfront, the more of a discount Straight Talk will give you.

Straight Talk limited plans

Straight Talk offers one limited data plan—its $35 5GB plan, which includes 5G of high-speed data and then 2G speeds thereafter. As far as limited data plans go, this plan doesn’t get you a whole lot of bang for your buck. There are unlimited data plans offered by MVNOs for similar pricing, such as Visible’s $40 Unlimited Plan and the Ultra Mobile $39 Unlimited Data Single-Month Plan.

Additionally, Straight Talk offers one basic cell phone plan, the $30 Basic Plan, which includes unlimited messages, 1,500 minutes, and 100MB for data-capable phones. It’s hard to make a great case for this plan as it only has 100MB, which is incredibly restrictive for most modern phones. It’s really only a good option for young children or elderly people who need a cheap, basic plan.

Does Straight Talk offer family plans?

Straight Talk does not offer a traditional family plan, per se, although it does offer a 2-line variation of the $55 Ultimate Unlimited Plan for $90/month, dropping the price to $45/month per line. $45/month is a super competitive price for an unlimited data plan, so you might want to grab a friend or a spouse and take advantage of this Straight Talk 2-line family plan.

Straight Talk international add ons

Straight Talk offers one international add-on—a $10 Global Calling Card, which allows you to make calls to hundreds of destinations around the world. Straight Talk offers solid international rates (as low as $.01/minute) and you can add up to three calling cards to your account at once. If you don’t use all of your international minutes in a given month, they will roll over to the next month so no need to worry about using the full value every billing cycle.

Compare Straight Talk to other MVNOs

Straight Talk’s versatile network and cheap unlimited plans make it a viable option if you want a nice data allowance without the high price tag. However, there are comparable plans from other carriers—MVNOs, specifically—that are worth considering.
