RIM to Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac

September 24, 2009
Research in Motion on Thursday unveiled details about the Mac version of its desktop software. The company is prepping the offering for final release, but did not provide an actual date.

RIM said that sync times will increase, but how much depends on the amount of data actually stored on the BlackBerry.

If you have a BlackBerry with onboard memory, like the Storm or Bold, you will be able to choose whether to sync your music to that onboard memory or to a microSD card.

Some of the features will include:
  • Sync your iTunes playlists, calendars, contacts, notes and tasks
  • Sync for any software that can talk to Apple's Sync Services
  • A ‘Safer Sync’ feature to allow syncing of multiple computers
  • Backup and restore your device data with such features like automatically scheduled backups and optional encryption
