TELUS and international top-up service Tranglo have partnered up to help you keep in contact with friends and family overseas. TELUS users can now text the intended recipients' phone number to short code 5332, adding dollars to their account. The gift top-up automatically gets charged to the TELUS account.

There is a little back and forth, but all said it's pretty straightforward and all done via SMS. You choose the option of Canadian dollars you'd like to send, once confirmed, the recipient will receive a top-up to their account in the local currency. Done.

There are no subscription fees and no additional transfer fees to be paid - the total charge is confirmed via SMS. The service is available to both prepaid and postpaid accounts. The entire exchange happens within 5 minutes or less.
