Shaw taking "initial steps" to enter the Canadian Wireless Market

January 14, 2010
ShawAt Shaw's annual general meeting in Calgary they stated that they will be taking "initial steps" to enter the Canadian wireless market in 2010.   This move could prove very interesting for much of Western Canada where Shaw has a large TV & Internet stake.  The addition of cell phones to be bundled with their existing TV & Internet services could prove very attractive for many of their customers.

The market has keenly awaited word on Shaw’s wireless plans ever since it spent $189.5 million on Canada’s wireless spectrum auction in 2008. Three months ago, Shaw said its "total plan" was not yet ready, but it was interested in cautious expansion.  Shaw has stated they have plans to build out their wireless network over the next few years.
