AC781S works great at home and travel

Reviewed on Tuesday July 11, 2017 by , Berryville, VA
I live in a rural area where the only non-wireless broadband available is Verizon DSL at 1.5Mbps down x 400Kbps up on a good day. Verizon Wireless, Sprint and AT&T Wireless have 4G LTE support in my area and our family has 4 smartphones and the AT&T Unite Pro NetGear AC781S on our shared 30GB data plan. I have used the 781S at home with external antenna and while traveling. It does support full VoIP audio, video and web conferencing via Wi-Fi or tethered USB connection to my Windows 7/8/10 PC for Skype for Business, Skype, Zoom, GoToMeeting and RingCentral multimedia meetings as long as you have a decent 4G LTE or strong 3G connection. USB tethering works best and eliminates the additional Wi-Fi latency and overhead. I have been very happy with the ease-of-use, features, performance, features, battery life and build quality. The Wi-Fi hotspot supports up to 15 wireless connections across both Guest and Private SSIDs. I don't use it for Text Messaging, but I have used it to charge my HTC One M7/M9 smartphone. I will say my HTC M7/M9 smartphones provide slightly faster Wi-Fi and as Tethered USB than the AC781S, but that is probably due to the additional RAM and top of the line processor in the phone. AT&T now offers the Unite Explore NetGear AC815S which adds content filtering and a few other features.

Limitations of the AirCard 781S (AT&T)

Reviewed on Friday March 6, 2015 by , Middle Georgia
This is not an acceptable replacement for lack of connection to a "true" Internet connection you would get at home.

1. Secure File Transfer (SFTP) using TLS / SSL or even SSH will NOT work.
2. Using GoToMeeting will allow you to see and hear the other participants but it will NOT let you be heard.

I am using Windows 7 and have installed all product updates and these problems still exist.

I have been in the tech world for almost 15 years, so do not take this review lightly... if you need anything like the above, look elsewhere until Netgear and AT&T get their stuff together.

I am truly sorry I spent this much money on something I cannot use as mobile Internet.
