Fido was formerly known as Microcell Telecommunications before being purchased by Rogers
in November of 2004. Fido was the first Canadian provider to launch a GSM based network and the first in North America to offer GPRS (General Packet Radio Service).
Fido operates on the Rogers network.
In November, 2007, Fido announced the HSPA network was available to customers in 25 areas from Quebec City to Victoria.
In 2010, Fido made the HSPA+ network available to select markets across Canada.
Fido is expected to make the LTE network available sometime in the summer or fall of 2012.
