Motorola A840

This phone isn't perfect but if you are looking for a phone that will work in most countries, including Chile, this does the trick. Yes, it does work in Chile - and in the Middle East, and in China - and, yes it does automatically search for a signal... that is if you activate it before you leave! It does have a web browser but Bell doesn't offer the service [so don't blame Motorola]. The A840 sold by U.S. providers usually allows you browsing privileges (if you pick the right plan) so why Bell doesn't offer it, I'm not sure. I'm not sure about Telus. It does seem cheap and flimsy, but since I got it so people can be in contact with me when I travel, I have to say it's not a bad phone. As far as the contracts offered by Bell and Telus - well, that's a different story.
In conclusion: Motorola made a decent phone; the service providers fail though.

Man,,, did I get sucked in!!!! All I wanted was a phone that works anywhere in the world, and the sold me this fishing weight!!!! So here I am in Santiago, Chili, and I can't even get it to find a carrier,,,, the so called GSM mode, (Which you need to pack a binder with you for all the secret codes and passwords) does not automatically roam, scan, search, hook onto, whatever you want to call it?? down here?? There is NO GSM connection here?? It doesn't work!! It's going back for a complete and full refund. They are not getting a cent out of me, because the service of the phone was a complete dis-satisfaction.
If it's a fight to the end, my legal advisors will inform them,, I've been falsely lead to believe in the words "World Phone",, and it's a total lie....
I think if they don't look after me-- I'm switching to Rogers!!! Do not buy this phone!!!!!!!!

I bought this phone today and it's going back tomorrow.

I gave this phone one star. For a few reasons...
Where do I start?
1) INCPABLE OF DOWNLOADS... Who in their right mind makes a phone with a massively polyphonic speaker and then gives you ten ringotnes to choose from and thats it. And. You. Will. Never. Get. Any. More.
2)The camera sucks. Grainy, full of lines, and really dark even when taking pictures outside.
3) Talk time up to 3.3 hours and UP TO six days standby. They have used the words "UP TO" very loosely. At first I thought my battery was DOA. Nope. I get three days max out of it if I don't open the lid.
4) I have a camera phone. Would be nice to be able to picture message wouldn't. But then of course who wants to share really bad quality pictures....
5) MP3 is nice. WHEN IT COMES WITH HEADPHONES!!! try finding a pair of earbuds with that nifty small adapter. Good luck!
6)It's maade of some sort of flimsy plastic that makes me afraid to drop it on my bed let alone on concrete.

I think the only handy thing about this phone is that i comes with a bunch of world wide power adapters. Being a world traveler it would have been handy to have these a few years ago.

This phone is junk. Period. The big bru-haha about CDMA and GSM at the same time is a joke since there are several networks in the states that are GSM and the rest of the world is GSM. (well except panama but I'm there once a year) I'm wondering why I didn't go with rogers...
